Additional Information & Resources

January 30, 2025

We recognize the increased anxiety surrounding recent executive orders on immigration and the challenges many of our students, families and staff are facing. For many in our community, the uncertainty is overwhelming.

Some families have said they did not receive my Friday, January 24, message regarding Education Rights for Families and Students, which includes important resources, so please find that message here:

All front offices in our schools, including the district office, will have Red Cards available for anyone who would like one. Regardless of immigration status, everyone in the United States has rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. Red Cards help individuals assert those rights and can also be downloaded here: https://www.ilrc.org/red-cards-tarjetas-rojas

As I previously shared, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office stated in a joint press release with other local law enforcement agencies that it has “not historically participated in the enforcement of immigration laws. We do not intend to change that practice.” The full statement is attached.

We have a strong partnership with the Moorpark Police Department which includes our School Resource Officer, who does an outstanding job supporting our schools. To avoid unnecessary panic or confusion about police calls for service at our schools, we will share more details when possible. We hope this will prevent rumors that can create anxiety.

Our work goes beyond classrooms, school buildings and offices. We strive to be a source of stability, compassion and support for our school community. It is essential that we continue to support our students, families and one another. At the heart of our mission, in partnership with parents and the community, is creating learning environments where all students feel safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Thank you for making our schools places where every student can thrive.

Sincerely,
Dr. Kelli Hays
Superintendent
