Moorpark High School Awarded Highest Level of WASC Accreditation

(Moorpark, California) Feb. 24, 2025—Moorpark High School was awarded earlier this month a six-year accreditation, the highest level granted by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement.

“I want to thank and congratulate Moorpark High’s students, teachers, counselors, administrators, parents and community members who contributed to this process,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said. “Their dedication and hard work have resulted in this outstanding recognition, reinforcing Moorpark High School’s mission to provide a high-quality education that prepares students for future success.”

The WASC accreditation process is a rigorous evaluation that ensures schools provide a high-quality learning environment that challenges students while fostering reflective teaching practices.

Over the past year, Moorpark High School staff engaged in an extensive self-study process, culminating in a site visit from a WASC visiting committee in November 2024. During their visit, committee members observed classrooms, met with administrators, teachers, students, parents and district leaders to assess the school’s culture and instructional programs.

“The six-year accreditation is a tremendous achievement that reflects the dedication of our entire school community,” Principal Zaid Bakoo said. “Our students, staff and families have all played a critical role in demonstrating the strength of our academic programs and our commitment to student success.”

As part of the six-year accreditation, WASC has provided Moorpark High School with valuable feedback to help shape an ongoing action plan for continuous improvement. A mid-cycle review will take place in three years to assess progress and ensure the plan is being implemented effectively.

WASC is a globally recognized accrediting body that serves over 5,200 schools across California, Hawaii and various international regions. Their accreditation process emphasizes school improvement through self-reflection and external evaluation, ensuring institutions meet rigorous, research-based criteria.
