Myles Guy to Lead Moorpark High’s Girls’ Basketball

 

(Moorpark, California) March 20, 2025—Few people know the Moorpark High School gym better than Myles Guy.

From his days as a standout athlete at MHS to countless hours spent coaching, the Musketeers’ court has been a second home. Now, he’ll continue his journey in that familiar space as the new head coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team.

A Moorpark High School alumnus, Guy excelled as a multi-sport athlete before continuing his basketball career at Moorpark College.

His coaching journey at Moorpark High has been nothing short of impressive, serving as the boys' frosh/soph head coach, junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach.

Under his leadership, the boys' frosh/soph team achieved a historic 23-2 season, earning both the Ventura County and Coastal Canyon Frosh/Soph Coach of the Year honors in 2023.

Most recently, Guy stepped in as the interim head coach for the girls' varsity team, leading them to a CIF playoff appearance in his first season.

As head coach, Guy is looking to make the Musketeers one of the best defensive teams in the county, instilling a program built on hard work and discipline. “I want my players to play fast and free,” he said. “I want them to let their full talent show.”

Guy said he is deeply committed to representing the school and community.

“I take a lot of pride in Moorpark’s close connections because I am from Moorpark, and I know what it means to represent the community,” Guy said. “We want our players to be proud of representing this city and our program.”

Guy also emphasizes the life lessons that come with the game. “Basketball is not going to last forever, but the way you treat people and the life lessons you learn playing basketball are really what’s most important in life and the sport.”

Upon learning he had been named head coach, Guy was overcome with emotion.

“I’ll be honest, I teared up. It means a lot for them to trust me,” he said. “This is where I want to be, and I’m excited to get started for next season.”

He has high expectations for the program’s future, predicting continued success. “We’re making playoffs the next few years for sure,” he said.

Last season, the team finished third in the Coastal Canyon League with a 4-4 league record and an overall record of 14-8, earning a CIF Southern Section playoff berth before falling in the first round to South Pasadena. Guy believes the team is poised to build on that success and continue growing.

“We are excited to officially welcome Coach Guy as the head of our girls’ basketball program,” said Moorpark High School Athletic Director Rob Dearborn. “His dedication to the school, knowledge of the game and passion for developing young athletes make him the perfect fit to lead this team into the future.”

Beyond the court, Guy has demonstrated a commitment to student-athlete growth through skill development clinics, fundraising initiatives and fostering a positive team culture.

His leadership will continue to build on the foundation of success for Moorpark girls’ basketball.
