MUSD Upgrades and Expands Security Cameras Districtwide

(Moorpark, California) July 7, 2026—The Moorpark Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of 31 multi-sensor camera units providing 113 individual camera views during its June 16 meeting.

The new Verkada cameras will replace existing cameras at Moorpark High School, Mesa Verde Middle School and Chaparral Middle School. They will provide higher resolution images and wider fields of vision, improving campus supervision and enhancing school safety.

The existing secondary school cameras, which remain in excellent working condition, will be relocated to elementary schools to expand camera coverage at those campuses.

“We want our students, staff and families to know that safety is something we are always thinking about and working to improve,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said. “This project allows us to strengthen camera coverage at every school while making good use of equipment that still has many years of service ahead.”

The board approved the approximately $114,500 purchase. It will be funded through the district’s safety credits which are not part of MUSD’s general fund.

Installation will take place over the summer, with the cameras expected to be operational when the new school year begins Aug. 19.

The project is part of MUSD’s ongoing school safety efforts that also include annual active assailant and emergency operations training for district staff, a school resource officer and the district’s Safety Committee.
