MUSD Announces New Director to Lead Child Nutrition Services

(Moorpark, California) Dec. 20, 2024—Kelly Carrillo has been named as the new Director of Child Nutrition Services for Moorpark Unified School District, following unanimous approval by the Board of Education at its December 16 meeting.
“It’s an honor to step into this new role and continue serving the students and families of Moorpark Unified School District,” Carrillo said. “I look forward to building on the strong foundation established by Mr. Orozco and working with the incredible Child Nutrition Services team to deliver nutritious and delicious meals that support student success.”
Carrillo will officially begin as department director on January 6, 2025.
“Kelly Carrillo’s proven expertise and passion for student wellness make her an excellent choice to lead the department. We are excited to see her vision and leadership shape the future of Child Nutrition Services at MUSD,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said.
She succeeds Orlando Orozco, who has served in the role since 2018. Orozco will continue in Child Nutrition Services to focus his attention on culinary innovations and sustainability in accordance with new California legislation.
Carrillo brings over a decade of experience in child nutrition and food service management to her new role.
Since joining MUSD in 2014, she has advanced through key positions, most recently serving as Child Nutrition Operations Assistant. For nearly a decade, she oversaw the daily operations of the district’s school nutrition programs, implemented initiatives to increase student participation and ensured compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Under Carrillo’s leadership, MUSD has enhanced its meal offerings to better meet the nutritional needs of students.
Her collaborative approach with school administrators and food vendors has led to higher quality meals and greater cost-effectiveness for MUSD. Her dedication to developing innovative nutrition practices and her passion for promoting healthy eating habits reflect MUSD’s commitment to student wellness.
“Kelly’s extensive experience in leadership, problem solving and compliance ensures a seamless transition as she takes the helm of the department,” Dr. Hays said.
