Moorpark High AP Test Scores Again Exceed State and Global Averages
(Moorpark, California) September 4, 2024—Moorpark High School students have once again outperformed state and global averages on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams, continuing a long-standing tradition of excellence.
“These impressive results are a testament to the commitment of our students and teachers at Moorpark High, reaffirming that our students are prepared for the challenges ahead,” said Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays. “We’re dedicated to giving our students the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly interconnected global economy and competitive job market.”
Hays commended Moorpark High’s teachers.

Students finishing an AP course have the opportunity to sit for an AP exam administered by the New York-based College Board. Given in May, these exams typically feature a mix of multiple-choice and free-response questions that test the student’s knowledge of the course material. AP exam scores range from 1 to 5, with 5 as the top score. A passing score of 3 or higher can earn students college credit at most universities and colleges.
Subject matter spans the entire curriculum: language (Spanish, Chinese and French), English (language and literature), history (U.S. and European), government, sciences (biology, psychology, chemistry and physics) and math (calculus and statistics).
Last year, Moorpark High School students in grades 10 to 12 took 799 AP tests (up from 645 the year before) in 23 subject areas. Of those subject areas, Moorpark High students earned an average passing rate of 88%, outscoring the state (72%) and global (72%) averages by 16 percentage points.
The total includes 19 Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) students who took 31 AP exams. Of those tests, 18 received a score of 3 or higher.
Highlights include:
· French AP test: MUSD pass rate was 100%; California average was 69% and global average was 72%
· Spanish Language AP test: MUSD pass rate was 87%; California average was 85% and global average was 82%
· English Literature AP test: MUSD pass rate was 98%; California average was 72% and global average was 73%
· Research AP test: MUSD pass rate was 100%; California average was 85% and global average was 86%
· Seminar AP test: MUSD pass rate was 100%; California average was 85% and global average was 84%
· European History AP test: MUSD pass rate was 100%; California average was 68% and global average was 72%
· Government AP test: MUSD pass rate was 90%; California average was 70% and global average was 73%
· U.S. History AP test: MUSD pass rate was 78%; California average was 73% and global average was 72%
· Psychology AP test: MUSD pass rate was 85%; California average was 63% and global average was 62%
· Biology AP test: MUSD pass rate was 86%; California average was 68% and global average was 68%
· Physics 1 AP test: MUSD pass rate was 67%; California average was 52% and global average was 47%
· Calculus AB AP test: MUSD pass rate was 74%; California average was 66% and global average was 64%
· Calculus BC AP test: MUSD pass rate was 100%; California average was 82% and global average was 81%
· Statistics AP test: MUSD pass rate was 78%; California average was 61% and global average was 62%
· Precalculus AP test: MUSD pass rate was 100%; California average was 76% and global average was 76%
