MHS Students' AP Test Scores Exceed State and Global Averages
(Moorpark, California) Nov. 17, 2023—Recently released Advanced Placement test scores show Moorpark High School students exceeded state and global averages in nearly every subject matter.
“The results of these AP test scores are a testament to the incredible students and teachers at Moorpark High who are committed to these college-level courses and continue to prove that our students are ready for the next step in their education,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said.
Advanced Placement (AP) classes are rigorous high school courses offered in various subjects, such as history, science, mathematics, languages, and more. They are designed to provide students with college-level content and skills, allowing them to delve deeper into a particular subject and potentially earn college credit while still in high school.
At the end of an AP course, students have the option to take an AP exam administered by the New York-based College Board. The exams, given in May, typically consist of multiple-choice questions and free-response sections that assess the student's knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. AP exams are scored on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest possible score. Most colleges and universities will give high school students college credits with a passing AP score of 3 or higher.
Last year, Moorpark High School students in grades 10 to 12 took 645 AP tests in 26 content areas. The total includes 18 Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) students who took 35 AP exams. Of those 35 tests, 33 received a score of 3 or higher.
