MHS Athletic Director Rob Dearborn Elected to CIF Southern Section Executive Committee
(Moorpark, California) Oct. 3, 2023— Moorpark High School Athletic Director Rob Dearborn has begun his four-year term on the CIF Southern Section Executive Committee.
Mr. Dearborn, the longest-serving athletic director in Ventura County, is the Northern Area Representative on the 16-member committee. Mr. Dearborn’s area stretches from Calabasas to across Santa Barbara County.
Founded in 1913, the CIF Southern Section is one of 10 sections in the California Interscholastic Federation, the governing body for high school sports in the state. By far the largest in California, CIF Southern Section consists of 569 public and private schools in 82 leagues located in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and central and southern Santa Barbara counties.
The Executive Committee meets collectively three times a year to decide policies and procedures that are followed by the high schools within CIF Southern Section. The Executive Committee members also serve on other committees and boards which meet throughout the year. Mr. Dearborn is the chair the Officials Committee and also sits on the Track and Field Advisory Board.
Mr. Dearborn, a graduate of California Lutheran University where he played football, has been in education for nearly 40 years. He began at Moorpark High School in 1987. Ten years later, he was named athletic director, a post he has held for close to 30 years.
“I think my experience as an AD definitely helps with decision making, especially when you know the history of the sport and the schools,” Mr. Dearborn said of being elected to the Executive Committee. “I’m very excited about the opportunity and honored to serve the four-year term.”
Mr. Dearborn and his wife of 35 years, Denise, have four grown children: James, Hannah, Sarah and Christian, who is a history teacher and coach at MHS.
Though Mr. Dearborn admits that being a high school athletic director often means long hours spent at sporting events, he said: “it’s the students and those incredible moments on the field that make it all worth it.”
“From maintaining our sports facilities to overseeing our coaches and teams, I truly believe everything Rob Dearborn does for Moorpark High is in the best interest of our student-athletes,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said. “He is exceedingly hardworking and committed to our school district, and I think he will make a fantastic representative on the CIF Southern Section Executive Committee.”
