Katie Eich Receives State Award for Excellence in Civic Education

(Moorpark, California) Dec. 13, 2024—Katie Eich, a history teacher at Campus Canyon College Preparatory Academy, has been selected to receive the 2025 Roy L. Erickson Civic Education Award from the California Council for the Social Studies.

“Katie is an inspirational and highly effective educator who is most deserving of this recognition,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said. “On behalf of MUSD and our Board of Education, I congratulate Ms. Eich, and I am grateful for her tremendous work in civics education that continues to positively influence our students.” 

Ms. Eich, a former student of Campus Canyon who began her education there in kindergarten, has dedicated the past 11 years to teaching social studies and civics, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education to her students.

After attending Moorpark College, Eich transferred to California Lutheran University, where she graduated with a bachelor's in History. She also earned a Teaching Credential and a master's from California Lutheran University's Graduate School of Education.

“History is a passion of mine. Learning about the people of the past is fascinating and seeing how they were not so different from us in modern times is incredible,” Ms. Eich said.

Ms. Eich’s impressive application, showcasing her hard work and passion for teaching, earned her the honor of receiving this distinguished award. She will be recognized for her achievements at a special ceremony during the 2025 CCSS Annual Conference on March 8, 2025, at the San Francisco Marriott Airport Waterfront.

"We are incredibly proud of Katie for receiving this recognition," said Dr. Jane Wagmeister, assistant superintendent of Instructional Services. "Her dedication to both her students and her profession serves as an inspiration to all who work with her. This award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of her outstanding contributions to the field of social studies education."

Ms. Eich’s achievement highlights the exceptional educators within Moorpark Unified School District who continue to make a lasting impact on their students and communities.
