Guaranteed Admission to CSUCI for Moorpark Unified Graduates Under New Partnership

Cal State Channel Islands graduates celebrate graduation

(Moorpark, California) Oct. 8, 2024—With the unanimous approval from Moorpark Unified’s Board of Education, MUSD has signed a memorandum of understanding with California State University Channel Islands that provides guaranteed admission for qualifying high school graduates.

The MUSD Board approved the agreement with a 5-0 vote during its October 8 meeting. The agreement guarantees admission to CSUCI for all MUSD high school students who meet specific program requirements.

The timing of the vote allows Class of 2025 graduates to apply as the Cal State University system opened its enrollment portal for 2025 last week.

This partnership aims to open the door to higher education for many students, especially those who would be the first in their families to attend college. With CSUCI's commitment to serving diverse communities and providing access to quality education, this initiative is poised to have a lasting impact on the future of Moorpark students.

“This agreement will provide a greater opportunity for our students to directly enter a four-year university,” said Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays. “We are proud to offer this pathway to higher education, particularly for students who may not have considered a four-year university as an option. CSUCI’s commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to supporting students aligns perfectly with our mission to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.”

Under the agreement, students who meet the eligibility requirements will be able to secure a place at Channel Islands, one of the most affordable universities in the California State University system. The university offers a range of programs, from STEM fields to liberal arts, and emphasizes small class sizes and personalized instruction.

Cal State Channel Islands’ Guaranteed Admission Program not only provides a clear path to college for MUSD students but also ensures that they are well-prepared through a comprehensive support system throughout high school.

This partnership is expected to particularly benefit students who may not have had access to similar opportunities in the past, paving the way for them to achieve their academic and career goals.

In addition to guaranteed admission, CSUCI is offering resources such as information sessions and college application support, helping students navigate the application process. Parents and students are encouraged to attend these sessions to learn more about the program and what it means for their future.
