Erin Hanley Named Principal at Mesa Verde Middle School
(Moorpark, California) May 30, 2024—Moorpark Unified School District is pleased to announce that Ms. Erin Hanley will assume the duties of principal at Mesa Verde Middle School, effective July 1, 2024. Ms. Hanley will replace Ms. Shannon Madsen, who will be pursuing other career opportunities.
"We are delighted to welcome Ms. Erin Hanley as the new principal of Mesa Verde Middle School,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said. “Her teaching experience which includes leadership roles in instructional practices and professional development, deep community ties and dedication to educational excellence make her an outstanding addition to our leadership team."
Ms. Hanley brings a wealth of experience in teaching practices and a strong connection to the Moorpark community to her new role.
“I am thrilled to take on this new role, and I look forward to working with Mesa Verde's amazing students, families and staff while continuing our tradition of excellence,” Ms. Hanley said.
She began her career in 2009 as a mathematics teacher at Atascadero High School before teaching at Mesa Union Elementary School in Somis. In 2016, she joined Moorpark Unified School District as a middle school math teacher at Mesa Verde Middle School, where she was recognized as Ventura County Math Council Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 2017.
During her tenure at MUSD, Ms. Hanley has served as Math Department Head, Moorpark Education Association school site representative, and on various teams such as the school site council, leadership team, and PRIDE team. She has also been instrumental in developing and implementing inclusive practices and co-teaching initiatives at Mesa Verde Middle School.
Ms. Hanley holds an Administrative Services Credential from California Lutheran University and a master’s degree in Mathematics from California State University, Northridge. She earned a Single Subject Mathematics credential from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from California State University, Stanislaus.
“Middle school is my favorite educational level to teach,” she said. “I believe that students experience the most significant changes in their academics and personal lives during these years, making it crucial for them to have strong role models and dedicated educators.”
Ms. Hanley said “becoming a parent has profoundly shaped my personal philosophy regarding education.”
“Observing the diverse experiences of my three children as students has reinforced my belief in the importance of creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students,” she said. “As a teacher, I strive to approach each student and class with this perspective, seeking to discover the key that unlocks each student's potential and fosters a sense of connectedness.”
Ms. Hanley lives in Moorpark with her husband and three children.
