Districtwide Progress Reflected in California Dashboard Results
(Moorpark, California) December 1, 2025—Moorpark Unified School District is celebrating strong gains in this year’s California School Dashboard, led by exceptional performance improvements at Moorpark High School.
MHS earned blue performance levels in graduation rate, college and career readiness and English language arts. The school recorded a 46.4 point increase in English language arts and a 29.5 point increase in mathematics, marking one of the strongest areas of growth in Ventura County. That means a greater number of students are meeting state standards.
The recently released data shows MUSD’s strengths and provides clarity about areas that still require focus and improvement.
The results guide the district as it builds on strategies that are working and applies those practices to areas that need additional support.
“We’re encouraged by the progress reflected in this year’s results and grateful for the effort behind it. We are proud of the areas where we are seeing meaningful growth and we understand that there is more work to do. Real change takes time and persistence. It comes from steady effort, collaboration and a shared commitment to helping every student reach their full potential,” Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hays said.
The California School Dashboard is the state’s public reporting tool that measures school and district performance through a color-coded scale based on both current achievement and year-over-year progress.
It includes eight statewide indicators that evaluate academic achievement, attendance, suspension rates, English learner progress, graduation rates and college and career preparation.
Results from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, known as CAASPP, in English language arts and mathematics are major components of the Academic Indicator. Beginning in 2026, science performance will also be included.
Moorpark Unified saw notable improvement across several districtwide measures.
The district’s overall graduation rate remains in the blue performance level at 95.5 percent, an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous year.
College and career readiness made one of the district’s most significant improvements, moving from orange last year to blue this year.
English language arts performance moved into green for the first time in three years.
Mathematics remained steady in green, continuing progress from the orange rating reported in 2023.
The suspension rate improved from yellow to green, continuing upward momentum since 2023.
Chronic absenteeism shifted from green last year to orange this year. The district reported a 5.6 percent improvement, but the final rating was affected by region-wide emergencies in January, including fires and extended power shutoffs that impacted attendance.
English learner progress shifted from green last year to red. The district identified long-term English learner performance as a priority focus and is strengthening professional development, scaffolding strategies and targeted intervention.
Updated reclassification criteria recently approved by the state are now aligned districtwide to more accurately assess student growth and identify supports.
In addition to Moorpark High School’s growth, several other school sites demonstrated improvement.
Arroyo West increased 23.7 points in English language arts and 8.2 percentage in English learner progress. Campus Canyon is green across all indicators.
Chaparral Middle School gained 19.7 points in English language arts and 10 points in mathematics.
Mesa Verde increased 5.4 points in English language arts, 4.4 points in mathematics and 15.3 percent in English learner progress.
The High School at Moorpark College earned blue ratings across all measured categories.
Dr. Hays said improvements in academic growth can be attributed in part to the expanded use of interim assessment block testing, close monitoring of student progress and strengthening of Career and Technical Education pathways.
The district also continues its commitment to a whole-student approach that supports academic achievement and emotional well-being. Expanding access to counseling and social-emotional services remains a priority, as student wellness has been shown to positively influence classroom performance.
