MOORPARK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Gifted and Talented Education Program
The Moorpark Unified School District recognizes the high performance capabilities of gifted and high achieving students as well as the unique needs and differences associated with these capabilities. The District is committed to a balanced program that provides a qualitatively differentiated curriculum through a variety of learning opportunities while also addressing the social-emotional needs of the students.
The GATE program targets four key areas necessary for a quality program: Program Organization and Structural Identification, Professional Development, and Student Services. Addressing the individual capabilities, needs and differences of each GATE student is the focus of student services. Professional development provides teacher training identification and instructional strategies. Identification criteria and procedure must address the needs of the diverse populations of the school community. The entire program is organized and structured to support appropriate identification, professional development, and services to students through the involvement of administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
GATE Program Update: GATE continues to be an important program for students and is still alive in Moorpark Unified School District. State budget cuts have resulted in decreases in site-level funding and personnel, but all classroom-level services to GATE and other high achieving students are continuing. In particular, this year we have concentrated our limited funding on providing teachers training in differentiation and time to work together to develop challenging curriculum for students.
