STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

The teachers, principals and support staff of the Moorpark Unified School District have reason to be very pleased with the achievement our students demonstrated on the 2008 state and federal accountability assessments. Our high-performing students and their parents, who are essential partners in the education process, deserve to be very proud!

California
Accountability:  Academic Performance Index (API)

  • All elementary and middle schools in the Moorpark Unified School District met their growth targets on the API.  Secondary schools held their ground.
  • The District API has continued to climb above the statewide performance target of 800 for the last four years:
    • 2005 - 803
    • 2006 - 811
    • 2007 - 818
    • 2008 - 821
  • District-wide, all sub-populations of students of significant size (White, Hispanic, Socio-Economic Status, English Learners, Special Education) made substantial growth on the API which includes results of the annual STAR exams and High School Exit Exam.
  • MUSD students perform well above the State of California levels overall and by sub-population.  See summary chart below:  2006-07 API Growth

Federal Accountability – No Child Left Behind Act of 2001:  Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)

  • All schools in the District met the 2007 federal criteria which include measures of proficiency in English language arts and mathematics, the API scores, and the graduation rate.
  • None of the schools in the District who receive Title I funding have the remedial status of “Program Improvement.”
  • Two schools were recognized in 2006-07 with Title I Academic Achievement Awards for their outstanding student achievement growth.
  • See summary chart below that shows MUSD student performance in comparison with State of California levels in relation to federal targets in English language arts and mathematics:  English Language Arts and Mathematics – Percent at or Above Proficient

ANALYSIS OF DATA TO DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION

How is this test data used by MUSD?

At the beginning of the school year, teachers and principals analyze the state test data by grade, subject and standard.  Teachers use the information to set improvement goals for their subjects, plan instruction, form groups and to screen students for special help and enrichment.  During the course of the school year, teachers will assess students regularly using District benchmark exams, classroom tests, in-class participation and the students’ school work.  As teachers plan instruction, they utilize information about students’ mastery of standards and skill levels to support their learning in strategic ways.  The term educators use for this process is “differentiated instruction.”  Teachers collaborate with each other in the planning process to tackle difficult instructional challenges and to share effective practices. These research-based practices are linked with both increases on test scores and systematic improvement of student learning.
