A Message from Ms. Delery, Principal

Thank you for visiting our web site.  It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as the Principal of Chaparral Middle School. My name is Ruby Delery (the last name is pronounced like celery, but with a ‘D’). I am honored to be working with an outstanding faculty, a dedicated staff, upstanding students, and a caring parent community.

Our teachers set high expectations and standards for all of our students.  It is through the outstanding achievement of our students, the active involvement of our parents, and the exceptional guidance and instruction by our teachers and support staff that Chaparral was named a National Blue Ribbon School in May of 2002.  We were one of only 33 schools in California to be nominated for National Blue Ribbon recognition, and one of only 172 schools nationwide to receive this honor.  We have also been twice recognized as a California Distinguished School, both in 2001 and 1992.

As Principal, I truly believe that given the right environment, all students can and will learn.  Therefore, as a Professional Learning Community our paramount aim is to fulfill the needs of each learner and ensure that students are achieving at a high level, developing as critical thinkers, and are well prepared for high school and beyond.  Middle school can be viewed through two lenses.  The first concerns academic preparation.  Middle school students are more than capable of achievement if the performance expectations are set at an attainable level.  Aligning instruction to state standards, creating consistent rubrics throughout the departments for assessment purposes, and offering timely feedback to students and parents are all aspects of a successful middle school. The second lens concerns the social and emotional aspect of students.  These developing young people are not merely short future high school students.  They bring with them unique developmental needs that must be addressed.  Therefore, by providing an outstanding education as well as a supportive and nurturing environment, Chaparral students are sure to become their very best.

Each month I write a column for our newsletter.  This column focuses on a variety of topics such as learning trends, technology, and character building.  In addition, words of wisdom from around the world which reinforce positive life lessons and excellence are shared each day.  Middle School is a time of great growth and choices.  We are dedicated to assisting students with finding academic and social success in school and beyond.

The faculty, staff, and parents of CMS make this an excellent place for all students to learn and grow.  Indeed, I am honored to serve as Principal of this outstanding school.  Thank you for your support and continued participation.  I look forward to meeting you and building a Panther Partnership.

Respectfully Yours,

Ruby Delery
Principal
