Parents often ask “What will my child learn in school this year?” The curriculum at Chaparral, as for all the schools in the Moorpark District, is closely aligned with the California State Department of Education’s content standards which clearly lay out what the state expects to be covered for each subject at each grade level.
“Content standards were designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.” CDE website
Parents are encouraged to link below to the California Department of Education’s webpage for Content Standards. Just choose the subject area and grade level you are interested in for a clear and concise outline of the state expectations.
While the Content Standards define what should be taught, the specifics of how the curriculum should be taught are left to the teachers and the school sites. Teachers provide valuable information on curriculum, major projects, and classroom expectations at the beginning of every year at Back-to-School night. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend this very informative evening. Handouts will be available for those who cannot attend.
