Our Philosophy

Campus Canyon College Preparatory Academy offers each student an opportunity to find and develop his or her unique profile of gifts and talents. Based on the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM), developed by Drs. Joeseph Renzulli and Sally Reis at the University of Connecticut, the major goal of the school is to provide challenging, in-depth, enjoyable learning experiences. This collaborative school culture focuses on the development of talents in all students and provides a wide range of advanced level enrichment activities. The ways in which students respond to these enrichment experiences are used as stepping stones for follow up advanced learning and in-depth projects and investigations.

The school culture celebrates individuality and diversity to develop creative problem solvers who feel they can make a difference in the world. SEM provides both the pedagogy of enrichment learning and teaching that provides rigourous instruction to motivate and challenge students, along with a continuum of services that takes full advantage of the expertise of the staff and the resources of the community and parents to provide advanced opportunities for students both in and outside of the regular curriculum.

Our College Connection with the neighboring Moorpark College, as well as becoming a Professional Development School with California Lutheran University, provides our students with authentic opportunities to interact with and learn from college professors and students. The development of partnerships with local college institutions enriches and reinforces grade level standards through updated best practices. This connection further demonstrates and models the concept of life-long learning. It is the expectation that all Campus Canyon Academy students will go to college and that all are expected to achieve at a level of academic performance that will enable them to succeed at the nation's best high schools and institutions of higher learning.

Campus Canyon K-8
Campus Canyon K-8

Reasons to choose Campus Canyon’s K-8 setting for the ‘middle school’ years.

We believe that the building blocks of life-long learning are established in the elementary and middle school years. Our middle school program reflects this belief with a strong academic program as well as wonderful opportunities for students to participate in our two magnet school themes:  school-wide enrichment and college connections.

  • The K-8 environment allows students to engage in age-appropriate activities and events, without being exposed to the peer pressures of the ‘tween years’. Our children are free to stay “younger” a bit longer.
  • With our magnet school theme of college connection and our proximity to Moorpark College, students have the opportunity to experience first hand through ‘walking field’ trips learning & enrichment opportunities on a college campus.  Also, our 8th grade promotion ceremony is held on the Moorpark College campus.
  • At Campus Canyon, all students are known by name and are a big part of our small, supportive, learning community.  In this nurturing K-8 setting, each child is recognized as an individual with unique gifts and talents, which are encouraged and supported through our school-wide enrichment theme and Friday E3 options.
  • In our school, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are not “caught in the middle.” They are the role models for the entire student body. The result is greater confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging.
  • Campus Canyon middle students assume early leadership responsibilities.  Students can serve as a classroom ambassador, choose to participate in Builder’s Club (a service organization sponsored by Kiwanis), volunteer as a peer tutor to a Kindergarten or 1st grade student, or be part of the middle school leadership class, which organizes school events and is responsible for the daily school-wide pledge of allegiance.
  • After-school enrichment programs in the arts – string orchestra & band – provide additional opportunities for individual student interests.
  • We prepare our students for new academic and social challenges. After being in the same school for nine years, eighth graders are ready for change. With a strong foundation of learning and friendship, high school becomes a new and exciting chapter.
