Follow-up budget information:

At the October 11, 2016 school board meeting, the District summarized the contents of the August 12, 2016 letter from the Ventura County Office of Education as it pertains to the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years. Public school district budgets are required to reflect three years - the current year and two subsequent years. While the letter includes commentary regarding the 2017-18 and 2018-2019 school years which, at this point, on paper, reflect deficit spending (page two, paragraph four), it is important to note that specific revenue information from the state for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 will not be known until early 2017. The District will begin budgeting for the 2017-2018 school year to ensure that the state recommended minimum reserves are met when the Governor makes his initial budget proposal in January.

Also posted, is the September 26th letter regarding the 2015-2016 annual audit status update.  It states that there are no notable findings and there are no significant deficiencies noted for Moorpark Unified School District to be communicated.

Good news! The follow-up to the 2014-2015 audit findings has been completed. The proposed audit plan over going concern has been addressed with the 2015-2016 budget and the projected ending undesignated reserve has increased to meet state minimum reserve requirements. There are no significant deficiencies noted for the Moorpark Unified School District. The VCOE writes, "Based upon our review, the 2016 -2017 LCAP and adopted budget of the Moorpark Unified School District have been approved. We would like to thank the Superintendent, district staff, and all who have been involved in working collaboratively and diligently to develop a budget with adequate reserves and positive cash balances.” The Board will be carefully monitoring the budget and will align expenditures with revenues as necessary to ensure the ongoing fiscal health of the Moorpark Unified School District.
