The Moorpark Unified School District Board of Education and Administration are committed to strengthening and coordinating the efforts of students, teachers, support staff, parents and the community toward the implementation of healthier, more environmentally sustainable schools; recognizing that this is a long-term vision and that full implementation will take time, and will be achieved in stages.
The Moorpark Unified School District has a long record of progress toward healthy, environmentally sound schools including: risk management programs designed to prevent and immediately address safety hazards; energy conservation programs that use more efficient equipment and make changes in usage practices of students and employees; nutrition initiatives that have eliminated non-nutritious food sales and promoted healthier school lunch alternatives; toxic free school environment initiatives that ensure safe instructional supplies and control the use of toxic chemicals in the school setting; and instructional programs that have developed student knowledge about protection of the environment.
The Moorpark Unified School District Board of Education and Administration recognize the importance of minimizing the District's use of natural resources, providing a high quality environment promoting health and productivity, and effectively managing all the District's resources. In an effort to conserve energy and reduce expenditures throughout the District, the Board of Education recently adopted an Energy, Water and Resources Conservation policy. This policy establishes a resource management program to develop strategies for implementing effective and sustainable resource practices, exploration of renewable and clean energy technologies, reduction of energy and water consumption, minimization of utility costs, reduction in the amount of consumable material waste, encouragement of recycling and green procurement practices, and an overall promotion of conservation principles. The Board of Education and Administration will continue to explore new and improved methods of energy conservation, with the perpetual goal of providing high quality education in an environmentally safe learning atmosphere for our students.
