Welcome to the
Welcome Back !
Congratulations to "The Flory Five" for winning First Place at the Ventura County Fair 2010 Academic Rodeo Ponies Division!
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Flory Academy of Sciences and Technology! I am so excited to be here. My name is Tammy Herzog, and I am your new Flory Academy principal. I am thrilled to be “back home” at Flory, as Flory is where I began my teaching career 17 years ago. As a teacher, I taught fourth and fifth grades at Flory and then assisted in the opening of Walnut Canyon School where I taught second and third grades. After getting my Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration, I left the classroom to work as the coordinator of the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant which provided funding for a district-wide afterschool program at Flory School and Community High School. When the grant ended, I was offered the position of Program Coordinator at Mesa Verde Middle School where I have been ever since. While working for Moorpark Unified School District, I have had many wonderful opportunities to develop and enhance my curriculum knowledge, leadership skills, and to continue to foster my love of children. I am really excited to have this opportunity to be FAST’s principal, and I am confident that we are going to have many wonderful experiences learning and working together.
The goal of FAST is to provide each student with a challenging and rigorous curriculum rich in mathematics, technology and the sciences. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our FAST Booster Club and PTA, Flory will be able to continue to offer students the opportunity to have weekly lessons with math and science specialists. In addition, students will be able to enhance their skills in the area of technology by working with the technology specialist on a weekly basis. We are very fortunate to be able to offer these additional enriching programs to our FAST students!
On most days I will be on playground and out visiting classrooms. I intend to be visible and accessible. If you ever need to speak with me about anything, please don’t hesitate. I believe that close communication between all stake-holders is invaluable to the success of our students and school. When we work together we maximize the success of the children.
As we work together during the year, I invite you to stay in contact and let me know how things are going for you and your child. There will be many opportunities for contact with me. Please don’t hesitate or ever think your comment or concern is unimportant. Through teamwork, open communication, and a dedication to continuous improvement, we can continue to make FAST a place where children delight in learning.
I look forward to meeting you and your child/children at the Back-to-School Picnic on August 24th. Enjoy your last few days of summer.

GATE Program Update: GATE continues to be an important program for students and is still alive in Moorpark Unified School District. State budget cuts have resulted in decreases in site-level funding and personnel, but all classroom-level services to GATE and other high achieving students are continuing. In particular, this year we have concentrated our limited funding on providing teachers training in differentiation and time to work together to develop challenging curriculum for students. For more detailed information on the GATE program in Moorpark, please visit our website: http://www.mrpk.org/GATEProgram/tabid/450/Default.aspx
