ABOUT MOORPARK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Read futher about about our family-oriented community, our high performing school district and our unique history.....

THE MOORPARK COMMUNITY
Located in southeastern Ventura County, the Moorpark Unified School District serves students within the City of Moorpark and surrounding rural areas.  The Moorpark community has a diverse population of about 36,000 inhabitants.  Historically, Moorpark has been an agricultural center that now also includes light industry, businesses, professionals and commuters who work in nearby areas.  The blend of country and city living, excellent schools, numerous community parks and the distinction of being one of the safest cities of its size have attracted many people to raise their families in the Moorpark community.

MOORPARK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Moorpark Unified School District operates eleven schools; six elementary schools, two middle schools, one comprehensive high school, a continuation high school and a middle college program.  The District has strong and innovative instructional programs and an array of enrichment and extracurricular programs to meet the diverse needs and interests of the students from preschool programs to honors, Advanced Placement and college-based courses.

Seven out of eight eligible District schools have been named California Distinguished Schools, one a National Blue Ribbon School, two Title I Academic Achievement awarded schools and Community High has Model Continuation High School status.  Among many notable programs are two magnet preschool through 5th grade schools offering performing/visual arts and the sciences, math and technology specializations and fee-for service and sliding scale after-school enrichment and childcare.  Moorpark High School has a wealth of rigorous academic courses, extracurricular and athletic programs.  The Academic Decathlon team competed and won the national championships in 1999, 2003 and 2008 and continually places first in the County.

The District is fortunate to be supported by a tremendous number of active volunteers and parent organizations including the Moorpark PTA Council and the Moorpark Education Foundation.  The elected five member Board of Education works collaboratively with the District Administration to create an inclusive environment throughout the organization for the students, staff, parents and community to work in partnership.
